Job summary

Shield AI is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join the X-BAT team, focusing on avionics software for UAVs. You will work with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and integrate software across sensors, firmware, autonomy AI, and ground control systems.

The role requires strong C/C++ expertise in embedded environments, knowledge of RTOS and modern C++ features, and a track record delivering robust software in aerospace or defense contexts.

Qualifications

• Strong embedded software development experience in C/C++.
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and modern C++ features.
• Strong knowledge of embedded software, BSPs or other systems software components.
• Familiarity with computer architecture, operating systems, and networking fundamentals.
• Proven track record delivering high-quality software in fast-paced environments.
• Experience producing technical documentation (architecture, designs, test plans).

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality C/C++ code tailored for X-Bat avionics.
• Lead cross-functional teams to implement robotic avionics capabilities.
• Own complex software features from design to production.
• Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews.
• Integrate software with firmware, autonomy AI, and GCS.
• Develop interfaces to avionics sensors and subsystems.
• Design updates to the software architecture.
• Create tools to improve CI, testing, and deployment processes.
• Create prototypes to validate critical concepts.
• Report status, risks, and progress to leadership.
