Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in Palmdale, CA, seeks a Staff Electronics Engineer to join our team. You will lead integration and testing of electronics, avionics, and software across networks, and develop installation and test procedures.

Ideal candidates hold a STEM degree with extensive engineering experience, and can obtain DoD Top Secret clearance and SAP access. On-site role with up to 25% travel and security requirements apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 12+ years of related engineering experience, or Master’s with 10+ years, or PhD with 7+ years.
  • Experience integrating and testing software and hardware in Unix and Windows environments.
  • Ability to lead installation, integration, and acceptance testing.
  • Ability to obtain Security+ certification.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance (baseline).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SAP access before employment and thereafter.

Job Overview

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add a Staff Electronics Engineer to join our team in Palmdale, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee test automation strategies that connect unit, integration, qualification, and system test.
  • Work with current budget for implementation and advise program management, acquiring additional budget to achieve the long‑term goal (starting small, progressing to full CI/CD).
  • Work in development, lab, and operational environments, understanding differences and ensuring integration and testing of complex system components are appropriate to each setting.
  • Perform integration and troubleshooting of electronics, avionics, and software components across multiple networks, interfacing with customer SMEs.
  • Document integration procedures to enable future reuse.
  • Facilitate collaboration with software, systems, hardware, and integration/test engineers to diagnose and identify root causes of problems found during software installation, integration, acceptance testing, and operational events.
  • Use in‑depth system knowledge to develop workable interim solutions that keep the system capable while software or hardware changes are implemented.
  • Develop and execute installation, integration, and acceptance test procedures.
  • Apply full development life‑cycle processes that respect technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Produce clear, concise technical documentation.
  • Submit detailed problem reports for identified errors.
  • Support project‑management tasks for the Statement of Work, serving as a work‑package manager, coordinating budget, scope, and schedule, and providing QBDs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience; OR Master’s degree with 10 years of experience; OR PhD with 7 years of experience.
  • Experience integrating and testing software and hardware components in Unix and Windows environments.
  • Ability to lead installation, integration, and acceptance testing.
  • Ability to obtain a Security+ certification.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance (background investigation within the past five years or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Access Program (SAP) access via a Program Access Request (PAR); SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to employment and maintained thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Active DoD Top Secret SCI clearance.
  • Excellent two‑way communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to brief technical presentations to stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with software network interfaces.
  • Experience automating installation, configuration, and test.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Agile Systems Engineering.
  • Demonstrated communication and technical writing skills.
  • Experience with Confluence and JIRA.
  • Experience with scripting languages.
Compensation and Benefits

Primary level salary range: $142,200.00 – $213,400.00. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives. Benefits include health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off.

Employment Conditions

Full‑time, on‑site at the Palmdale facility. No remote, hybrid, or telework option. Travel up to 25% may be required.
