Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in San Diego, CA seeks an Electronics Engineer or Principal Electronics Engineer to join our Avionics Integration Organization. The role is on-site only with relocation assistance possible, and includes about 25% travel. Clearance requirements apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 2 years of related engineering experience; OR Master’s Degree with 0 years; OR PhD with 1 year.
  • Active US Government Top Secret Clearance (SCI/SAP eligibility preferred).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work on-site in San Diego.

Responsibilities

  • Perform datacenter hardware/software installation, configuration, and testing for new systems and upgrades.
  • Construct rack-based datacenter systems focusing on safety, quality, and repairability.
  • Install system interconnect cabling for communications, audio, networking, and serial interfaces.
  • Interpret, markup and audit released engineering drawings.
  • Perform software integration of multiple components into a single host environment (Windows/Linux/VMware).
  • Integrate and troubleshoot software components across networks with customer SMEs.
  • Maintain system hardware/software configuration and documentation for future support.
  • Execute temporary and permanent changes to the system via established processes.
  • Provide expert software, hardware, and system support to on-site end-users.
  • Support engineering with defect resolution and enhancements.
  • Perform ILS and inventory tracking for inbound/outbound hardware.
  • Participate in offsite upgrades and system integration activities.

Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add an Electronics Engineer/Principal Electronics Field Engineer to join our team in San Diego, CA. The candidate should be a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct. This position will be within our Avionics Integration Organization.

This position can be filled at either an Electronics Engineer level or a Principal Electronics level, depending upon the qualifications below. The selected candidate will be required to work full‑time, on‑site at our facility. Remote, hybrid or telework is not available for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform datacenter hardware/software installation, configuration, and testing for both new systems and upgrades to existing complex IT systems
  • Physically construct rack‑based datacenter systems with a focus on safety, quality, and ease of repair
  • Install system interconnect cabling for communications, audio, networking, and serial interfaces
  • Interpret, markup/redline, and audit released engineering drawings
  • Perform software integration of multiple software components into a single system on the host environment. Components include but are not limited to: Windows, Solaris, VMware ESXi, network configurations, and internally developed executable software
  • Perform integration and troubleshooting of software components across multiple networks interfacing with customer Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
  • Maintain system hardware/software configuration and ensure that through documentation is created and maintained to allow others to integrate & troubleshoot in the future
  • Execute both temporary and permanent changes to the system via established processes
  • Provide expert software, hardware, and system support to on‑site end‑users
  • Support the engineering team(s) with software defect resolution and enhancement efforts
  • Perform integrated logistics support (ILS) and inventory tracking for inbound and outbound hardware
  • Participate in offsite upgrades and system integration activities
Basic Qualifications
  • Electronics Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related engineering experience
  • Principal Electronics Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related engineering experience
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to support equipment installation
  • Familiar with Windows, Linux, VMware configuration and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, IPv4 addressing and network design, including IP subnetting, VLANs and routing protocols
  • Must have an active US Government Top‑Secret Clearance (background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US Government SCI clearance
  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active USG Top Secret SCI clearance (background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Current clearance to a Special Access Program (SAP) or Special Compartmentalized Information (SCI)
  • Good understanding and knowledge of network security features like IP access‑lists
  • Good understanding of advanced features like GRE, DMVPN, IPSEC
  • Experience with network firewalls such as Cisco ASA, Cisco Firepower or Palo Alto Networks
  • Familiar with network management protocols like SNMP, SSH, syslog, RADIUS/TACACS
  • Experience in integration and testing of software and hardware components in Unix and Windows environments
  • Experience in automation of installation, configuration, and test
  • Experience with scripting languages (developing, debugging, and maintaining)
Salary and Benefits

Primary Level Salary: $91,800.00 – $137,600.00. Secondary Level Salary: $114,000.00 – $171,000.00. Compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and in certain positions long‑term incentives. Benefits include health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays and paid time off for vacation and personal business.
