Staff Electrical Hardware Systems Engineer
Job Description
About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

This role is responsible for the development of electrical vehicle systems and hardware architecture, across various technology domains (Body Systems). It requires a strong fundamental electronics background. The role is highly cross functional and will be a mixture of remote, hands on (in office), and may include occasional travel.

Responsibilities
  • Support feature development and decomposition down to the system, starting from user stories and vehicle requirements.
  • Own requirements and design of the hardware system, ensuring successful implementation down through the interface and component level as the ultimate electrical expert and advocate.
  • Develop and support execution of verification and validation testing plans and procedures.
  • Utilize first principles in electrical engineering and physics to solve problems with unique and innovative solutions.
  • Analyze and advise on new technology options and conducting trade studies for designs.
  • Leveraging experience to define what needs to be done more than taking direction and executing.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the position.
Qualifications
  • Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in engineering (ideally in the area of electrical or systems engineering)
  • Experience (or equivalent): 5 years industry work in electrical engineering and systems
  • Ideally knowledgeable in electromechanical systems (brushed/brushless motors and actuators)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for turning complex technical topics into understandable language.
