Job summary

Lunar Outpost in Golden, Colorado, seeks a Staff Electrical Hardware Engineer to own end‑to‑end electrical hardware for spaceflight and lunar surface systems, from architecture and schematic design through layout, bring‑up, and verification.

You will design high‑speed interfaces, power conversion, and mixed‑signal circuits, collaborating with mechanical, thermal, software, harnessing, and systems teams. Mentoring junior engineers and interfacing with NASA customers are key aspects of the role.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related field required.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in electrical hardware for aerospace or safety‑critical systems.
• Experience with spaceflight hardware design, qualification, or flight support.
• Hands‑on experience with high‑speed electrical systems and signal integrity considerations.
• Experience designing radiation‑tolerant or space‑rated electronics.
• Strong foundations in analog and digital circuit design including power regulation, data interfaces, sensing, and control.
• Experience with board‑level power design (DC/DC, POE, sequencing, protection).
• Experience with board bring‑up, integration, and troubleshooting in lab/vehicle environments.
• Proficiency with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout release.
• Familiarity with aerospace/NASA standards, reviews, and documentation expectations.
• Ability to independently own complex hardware designs and make tradeoffs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of electrical hardware for spaceflight systems, prototypes, and ground support equipment.
• Own electrical hardware from concept through flight, including requirements, schematics, PCB layout oversight, bring‑up, and verification.
• Design and review mixed‑signal circuits with digital, analog interfaces, sensing, control, and power conversion.
• Design board‑level power architectures including DC/DC converters, power distribution, sequencing, and protection.
• Develop/ support high‑speed designs (LVDS, Ethernet, SpaceWire, PCIe) with attention to signal integrity.
• Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, software, harnessing, and systems engineering for robust integration.
• Support component selection (processors, FPGAs, memories, connectors, converters) for spaceflight environments.
• Guide hardware trade studies and architecture decisions on performance, reliability, risk, cost, schedule.
• Participate in prototype builds, bring‑up, debugging, and root‑cause analysis with lab equipment.
• Plan and execute verification/test campaigns (functional, environmental, EMI/EMC, system‑level).
• Prepare and review technical documentation for design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR), qualification, flight readiness.
• Mentor junior engineers and establish best practices for electrical design and documentation.
• Interface with NASA customers, partners, and vendors as technical authority for electrical hardware.
