We are seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer (8+ years of experience) to lead the development of core electrical subsystems for a next-generation surgical robotic platform in Weston, FL. In this hands-on role, you will drive electrical solutions from concept through commercialization, leading end-to-end electrical architecture, custom printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), cabling integration, and power distribution.
You will collaborate closely with Software, Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Regulatory teams to deliver safe, compliant, and highly reliable robotic hardware.
- Location: Weston, FL (On-site / In-office)
- Open Headcount: 4 positions
- Pay Rate: $81.50 / hour (USD)
- Contract Duration: 12 months (with possible extensions)
Key Responsibilities
- Subsystem & Core Hardware Lead: Lead the electrical design and development of major robotic subsystems, translating product and system needs into technical requirements, schematics, and hardware architectures.
- PCBA Design & Altium Proficiency: Develop complex PCBAs—including schematic design, component selection, and rigid, flex, or rigid-flex board designs. Conduct layout reviews, board bring-up, characterization, testing, and debugging using Altium.
- System Integration: Integrate electrical hardware with embedded software, mechanical components, power distribution, and the broader robotic platform.
- Standards, Compliance & EMC: Ensure all designs align with medical device standards (IEC 60601). Develop EMC/EMI verification and test strategies, supporting hands-on testing at internal or external test laboratories.
- Technical Tradeoffs & Troubleshooting: Lead critical technical decisions balancing performance, safety, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and risk. Troubleshoot complex multidisciplinary system issues.
- Documentation & Commercialization: Support complete design controls, risk management (DHF), design transfer, and verification activities to prepare products for commercialization.
Qualifications & Key Requirements
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related engineering discipline) with 8+ years of hands-on professional electrical engineering experience (Staff level). Note: Not open to recent graduates.
- Domain Background:
- Primary: Proven background in the Medical Device industry with direct experience in design controls, risk management, and IEC 60601 standards.
- Secondary: High-reliability industries such as Aerospace or Space exploration are acceptable alternatives.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in Altium for schematic capture, layout reviews, and board bring-up.
- Experience with rigid, flex, and rigid-flex board design, EMC/EMI troubleshooting, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Demonstrated experience guiding complex electromechanical or robotic products from concept through verification and transfer.
- Work Model: Full-time on-site presence required due to physical hardware and lab testing requirements.
