Job summary

Redwood Materials is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer, Balance of Plant (BoP) to design, model, and protect the electrical infrastructure for our utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

You will perform load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash analysis, and size major equipment while ensuring NEC/IEEE/local utility code compliance. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of PV/BESS design, an MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, and ETAP expertise.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of PV/BESS design and commissioning experience.
• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with power systems specialization.
• Strong foundation in fault calculations, protective device coordination, and arc flash analyses.
• Expert proficiency in ETAP; SKM/EasyPower preferred.
• Experience with grounding and cable ampacity analysis tools preferred.
• Familiarity with NEC, IEEE and related industry practice.
• Experience with BESS, inverter-based generation, or data center electrical systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform and review balance-of-plant power system studies (load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash).
• Size and specify major electrical equipment (transformers, breakers, inverters, switchgear, cables).
• Create detailed power system models using ETAP, SKM, and EasyPower; document findings for stakeholders.
• Ensure designs comply with NEC, IEEE, and local utility codes; prepare engineering reports.
