The Role

Particle Measuring Systems is seeking a highly experienced Staff Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of next‑generation particle measurement instrumentation. This role requires deep expertise in ultra‑low‑noise analog electronics, high‑speed digital systems, optoelectronics, and sensor technologies. As a technical leader, you will work on multidisciplinary product development teams, helping to solve challenging sensing problems at the limits of measurement performance. You will contribute directly to technology strategy, guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and drive innovation in particle detection technologies. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with creativity, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for developing novel solutions to complex engineering challenges.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of high‑sensitivity, low‑noise detection systems and highly stable laser‑based measurement technologies
  • Develop innovative approaches for detecting increasingly smaller particles across diverse applications and media
  • Serve as a technical leader across multiple projects, influencing product design and engineering standards
  • Evaluate electronic circuit performance, identify improvement opportunities, and develop new testing methodologies when required
  • Conduct tradeoff analyses to evaluate alternative technologies, components, and system architectures
  • Investigate off‑the‑shelf technologies and determine where custom solutions provide strategic value
  • Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to understand application requirements and use cases
  • Develop proposals and perform research for emerging technologies and innovative sensing approaches
  • Prepare design documentation, technical reports, test plans, and engineering specifications
  • Mentor and coach electrical engineers and technicians, supporting technical growth and knowledge sharing
  • Participate in design reviews, root‑cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Continuously evaluate engineering processes to improve efficiency, quality, reliability, and safety

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 15+ years of analog or opto‑electronics circuit design experience
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB designs for noise and EMC
  • Experience with lasers, and opto‑electronics
  • Experience with industry photo‑detectors including PIN diodes, PMT, APD, and SiAPD
  • Experience with low noise transimpedance amplifiers, and high sensitivity detection
  • Experience using analog circuit simulators
  • Understanding of the art of analog and high speed digital layout design
  • Experience with advanced circuit test and evaluation methods
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports, summarize data and create technical documents
  • Effective coaching and mentoring skills for early career electrical engineers and technicians
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience with Siemens Xpedition/EDM PCBA design application
  • Experience with low noise analog amplifier designs including stability and noise analysis
  • Small signal analysis and design of single and multistage differential amplifiers
  • Understanding of techniques to perform analog and mixed signal circuit simulations
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • This position follows a hybrid work schedule and is expected to be on‑site at least 3 days per week based on project priorities and business needs
  • This role primarily operates in an office/lab/manufacturing environment. Must be able to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods of time
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. may be required

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive base salary range: $140000 - 177000 depending on experience
    • Our compensation philosophy: we offer competitive pay based on market data, including local, national, and industry benchmarks. For new hires, offers are generally within the established min‑to‑mid‑point of the range for the role, with flexibility to recognize experience, skills, and education. Our approach ensures fair pay internally while remaining competitive externally and allows room for growth.
