Job summary

Resonant, part of Murata, seeks a Staff Device Engineer to lead physics-based modeling for acoustic resonators and high-performance RF filters. You will collaborate with RF designers, technology teams and software engineers to push device-level insights into scalable mass production.

The role involves guiding cross-functional efforts, shaping technology direction and mentoring junior engineers in device modeling and characterization for next‑gen filters.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degrees required in engineering, physics or materials science.
  • 6+ years in device engineering, RF/acoustics, modeling or MEMS/semiconductor.
  • Ownership of major device models, methods or systems with minimal supervision.
  • Strong expertise in acoustic/RF device modeling (XBAR, SAW, BAW, MEMS).

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and improvement of physics-based models for acoustic resonator simulation and RF filter performance.
  • Analyze acoustic, electrical and thermal behaviors to identify limits, trade-offs and mitigations.
  • Review large-scale RF data and measurements to improve modeling fidelity and inform decisions.
  • Support experimentation, prototyping and characterization for technology advancement.
  • Contribute to ongoing XBAR device knowledge and guide long-term technology direction.
  • Mentor engineers on device modeling, characterization and performance optimization.

Staff Device Engineer

As a Staff Device Engineer on the Product Integration team, you will lead the development of physics‑based models to advance acoustic resonator performance, manufacturability, and reliability. You will work closely with the RF designer team, technology team, and software engineers to apply this deeper device‑level insight toward the development of high‑performance RF filters for mass production. What To Expect (Essential Job Responsibilities)

What Is Required (Qualifications)
  • Master's or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of industry experience in device engineering, RF/acoustics, modeling, or semiconductor/MEMS.
  • Demonstrated ownership of major device models, methods, or systems with minimal supervision.
  • Strong expertise in acoustic/RF device modeling (XBAR, SAW, BAW, MEMS).
  • Proficient with Python, MATLAB, and FEM tools such as COMSOL or FEMTET.
  • Able to lead cross‑functional technical efforts and influence design or technology decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to mentor and support junior engineers.
How To Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Hands‑on experience with SAW, BAW, XBAR, or MEMS device design or characterization.
  • Background in semiconductor, MEMS, or acoustic filter fabrication and process integration.
  • Strong proficiency with FEM/multiphysics tools (e.g., COMSOL, FEMTET).
  • Experience supporting technology or product development for high‑volume commercial applications.
Travel

Domestic travel between California offices is required. Infrequent international travel is required.

Minimum Salary: $120,000

Maximum Salary: $260,000

We consider various factors in determining actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. In addition to salary, this position is eligible for incentive awards based on individual and business performance as well as competitive benefits.
