Docker, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Developer Experience. You will lead ambiguous cross‑team work from problem definition through outcomes while staying hands‑on in code and shaping architecture.

Experience with Go, Clojure, Datomic, Kafka and distributed systems is valued. This remote‑first role offers strong equity, PTO and global collaboration across Docker’s platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with leadership on production systems at scale.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Deep experience designing, building and operating production backend or platform systems.
• Strong programming ability in at least one production language and adaptability to new languages.
• Experience with distributed systems, APIs, databases and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Track record leading cross-team initiatives and influencing without authority.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for backend and developer-experience initiatives across multiple languages.
• Turn ambiguous problems into clear plans with measurable outcomes.
• Design, build and operate distributed services, pipelines, databases and APIs with security and reliability.
• Lead cross-team delivery, surface risks early and remove blockers.
• Mentor engineers, improve design reviews, and create reusable patterns.
• Stay hands-on through implementation and on-call rotations.
• Communicate decisions and trade-offs clearly in a remote, async-first environment.
