We’re looking for a seasoned Staff Detection & Response Engineer to join a forward-leaning cybersecurity engineering team. In this role, you’ll design and implement technical capabilities that enable advanced threat detection, incident response, and forensic investigations. You’ll help shape the defense strategy by building sustainable, scalable tools that enhance how threats are identified, contained, and remediated.

This position offers both autonomy and collaboration—you’ll contribute individually and as part of a highly engaged team that values creative problem-solving, iterative development, and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineer and deploy detection and response capabilities across various security platforms.
  • Lead architecture and development of security tooling and automation for cyber defense operations.
  • Collaborate with security operations teams to refine threat detection strategies and improve investigation workflows.
  • Translate threat intelligence and emerging attack techniques into actionable detection logic and defensive controls.
  • Build and maintain automated workflows and orchestration pipelines for incident response and mitigation tasks.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and engineering issues related to cyber defense tooling.
  • Keep pace with evolving threat landscapes and incorporate new techniques into detection and response mechanisms.
  • Maintain clear, concise technical documentation for capabilities, processes, and supported services.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support operational continuity and rapid incident response.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent military/professional experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in security engineering, detection engineering, incident response, or threat operations.
  • Proficiency in Python for automation and orchestration of cybersecurity workflows.
  • Deep experience with security platforms such as SIEM, SOAR, EDR, firewalls, and network visibility tools.
  • Strong background in integrating systems via APIs and building automation pipelines.
  • Experience developing and tuning detection analytics using structured pipelines or detection-as-code frameworks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to debugging and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead technical projects end-to-end.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and their native security services.
  • Familiarity with machine learning models, large language models, or other advanced analytics applied to cyber defense.
