Job summary

Airbnb is hiring for a senior data infrastructure leader to design and build a next‑gen big data compute platform powering ETL, analytics and ML across the company.

Bring 10+ years in data infrastructure, strong Java/Scala coding, and deep experience with Spark, Presto/Trino, and Kubernetes. You’ll ensure reliability and cost efficiency while collaborating cross‑functionally and contributing to open source projects.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of experience in data infrastructure with big data technologies.
• Proficiency in Spark, Presto/Trino, Kubernetes.
• Strong programming skills in Java or Scala.
• Extensive experience in designing, building, and maintaining scalable, fault‑tolerant distributed systems.
• Demonstrated expertise in multi‑threading and concurrency programming.
• Familiar with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Proven ability to collaborate with other teams to define system requirements, identify potential solutions, and test and integrate systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the next generation big data compute platform to empower data ETL, analytics and machine learning at Airbnb.
• Operate, manage and improve the reliability, performance, observability and cost efficiency of the platform.
• Write maintainable and self-documenting code, perform code reviews.
• Work on, and contribute to open source software, and have industry impact.
