Monzo is hiring a Staff Data Scientist to help build the bank of the future. You’ll lead high-impact data science work end-to-end, partnering with product, engineering and risk teams, applying rigorous analyses and building scalable models.

This senior IC role can be based in London or Barcelona, with UK distributed working and visa sponsorship available. Competitive salary (£124,400–£165,000) plus incentives and benefits.

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading complex, business-critical data science work from ambiguous problem framing through measurable outcomes.
• Shaped strategy across a large product or business domain and influenced senior leaders with clear, independent judgement.
• Deep expertise across several data science disciplines and ability to set technical direction for high-complexity work.

Responsibilities

• Shape and lead the data strategy for a large domain, aligning customer goals with data science initiatives.
• Identify and frame strategically important problems with cross-team dependencies.
• Partner with senior leaders across product, engineering, ML, design, risk and operations to translate strategy into measurable outcomes.
• Establish measurement strategies and metric maps to connect customer behavior with business impact.
• Set best practices for experimentation, causal inference, forecasting, and optimization.
• Remain hands-on in data exploration, analyses, and prototype development where most valuable.
• Coach and mentor data scientists, building capability through reusable approaches and standards.
