Job summary

Walmart is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to provide technical leadership for next-generation AI systems and platforms. This senior individual contributor will drive breakthrough design and productionized solutions at scale.

The ideal candidate will architect end-to-end ML/AI systems, ship autonomous agents, and mentor senior talent while delivering measurable business value across Walmart globally.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in a quantitative field and 5+ years in data science or ML with demonstrated impact.
• PhD in AI/ML or related field is preferred for advanced research leadership.

Responsibilities

• Build and deploy production ML systems end-to-end: data pipelines, feature stores, model training, serving layers, monitoring, and feedback loops.
• Provide technical vision and lead advanced development in agentic AI, reinforcement learning, and simulation.
• Architect and deploy large-scale AI systems and autonomous AI agents — conversational assistants and multi-agent orchestration.
• Design agentic evaluation frameworks benchmarking performance across tasks, code quality, and multi-step reasoning.
• Deploy NLP pipelines at enterprise scale using semantic similarity and vector search (BERT/SBERT, FAISS).
• Lead high-impact projects end-to-end from framing to rollout, and present findings to leadership.
• Mentor senior scientists and engineers on advanced modeling, feature engineering, and experimentation design.
• Establish best practices for model validation and safe deployment of AI systems.
• Influence roadmap prioritization and long-term strategy for AI and simulation capabilities.
• Present insights with compelling data visualization and quantified business impact.
