Job description

Minimum qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  2. 8 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or 6 years of work experience with a PhD degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. 10 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or 8 years of work experience with a PhD degree.
  2. Experience with strategic analysis, metric reporting, and executive presentations.
  3. Experience with statistical modeling, survey design, data analysis, and effective experimental design.
  4. Ability to complete project work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
  5. Ability to apply statistical training to real-world data.
  6. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to extract insights from data and tell convincing stories.

Team focus:

The Search Platform Data Science team works on understanding and measuring Search systems, including metrics like Experiment, Reliability, Velocity, Latency, Capacity, Content, Logs Quality, and Search Infrastructure.

The team defines and develops system metrics to evaluate effectiveness and efficiency, partnering with Engineering and Product teams for system-level optimizations, and collaborating with Search verticals and horizontal teams, SREs, and Core to understand the impact of system changes on user experience and business.

Salary range and benefits:

The US base salary range is $197,000-$291,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary is determined by role, level, location, and individual factors. Specifics will be shared during the hiring process. Benefits details can be found at Google Benefits.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Working with large, complex data sets to solve non-routine analysis problems, including data gathering, processing, analysis, and presentations.
  2. Building and prototyping analysis pipelines to provide scalable insights and advocating for data structure and metric improvements.
  3. Collaborating cross-functionally with engineers and teams to identify opportunities and assess product improvements.
  4. Making business recommendations through effective visual presentations of data insights.
  5. Researching and developing analysis, forecasting, and optimization methods to enhance Google’s products in areas like ads quality, search quality, and behavioral modeling.
