Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or 6 years of work experience with a PhD degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or 8 years of work experience with a PhD degree.
  • Experience with strategic analysis, metric reporting, and executive presentations.
  • Experience with statistical modeling, survey design, data analysis, and effective experimental design.
  • Ability to complete project work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to apply statistical training to real-world data.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to extract insights from data and tell compelling stories.
About the job

The Search Platform Data Science team focuses on understanding and measuring Search systems, including metrics like Experiment, Reliability, Velocity, Latency, Capacity, Content, Logs Quality, and Search Infrastructure.

Data Scientists work on defining and developing system metrics to understand system effectiveness and efficiency, and how they interact with other Google systems. They collaborate with Engineering, Product teams, SREs, and other verticals to optimize systems and understand the impact on user experience and business.

Google Search aims to reimagine how people find information worldwide. Joining the Search team provides an opportunity to impact billions globally.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Salary ranges depend on role, level, and location. Specifics will be shared during the hiring process.

Responsibilities
  • Work with large, complex datasets; solve non-routine analysis problems; conduct data gathering, processing, analysis, and presentations.
  • Build and prototype analysis pipelines; understand Google data structures and advocate for necessary changes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers and other teams to improve products.
  • Present findings effectively to stakeholders, using visual data displays.
  • Research and develop methods for analysis, forecasting, and optimization to enhance Google's products, including ads quality, search quality, behavioral modeling, and experiments.
