Ibotta is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to join our innovative team and contribute to our mission to Make Every Purchase Rewarding. Our Core Data Science Team provides high-quality, on-time data science products and services across all business areas. We focus on thought leadership, expertise, evangelism, and governance of critical data science initiatives.

As a Staff Data Scientist, you'll build the foundation of data science within the company, creating and owning greenfield opportunities to impact multiple teams and domains. You'll own data science technology for core business areas, collaborate with stakeholders, and lead model development lifecycle. This role offers growth in technical, organizational, and leadership skills through establishing best practices and mentoring.

This position is located in Denver, Colorado, requiring a hybrid work model (3 days in-office: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Candidates must reside in the United States.

What you will be doing:

1. Provide expertise and ownership of core business domains
2. Lead best practices and set team standards
3. Collaborate with stakeholders, architects, and data engineers to prepare data for analysis and modeling
4. Analyze large datasets to extract insights and understand consumer behavior
5. Create customized data views to support decision-making
6. Design experiments to address business challenges and opportunities
7. Build models using statistical and machine learning techniques
8. Deploy and monitor data pipelines and models in production
9. Mentor and educate team members across the company

What we are looking for:

1. 7+ years of impactful experience in data science or machine learning roles
2. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, or related field
3. Passion for data-driven decision-making and storytelling
4. Continuous learner with contributions to the data science community (conference, publications, online presence)
5. Expertise in developing and applying machine learning and statistical algorithms
6. Proficiency in Python and/or R; Spark/PySpark experience is a plus
7. Strong statistical analysis skills, including experimental design and time series analysis
8. Excellent problem-solving skills
9. Deep knowledge of databases, query languages, and graph data schemas
10. Experience with feature engineering in complex data environments
11. MLOps experience is a plus
