Job summary

Upside is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead and design foundational data products and analytics capabilities that power our core product and business use cases. You will guide cross-functional workstreams, set architectural patterns, and elevate data quality across teams.

This role emphasizes problem solving, long-term maintainability, and mentoring others while helping teams work more effectively with data. Remote-friendly, with a strong focus on scalable data platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data or analytics engineering, owning complex data systems end to end.
• Experience with the modern data stack (Snowflake, dbt, Dagster, Databricks), terraform, and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead platform modernization across the analytics ecosystem, deprecating legacy workflows and tooling and migrating pipelines to scalable patterns.
• Drive high-leverage infrastructure and FinOps initiatives across systems to reduce cost and improve governance.
• Own platform evolution projects to increase data consumability and improve orchestration tooling.
• Design and deliver complex data products used by analysts, data scientists, and product teams to unlock new features and decisions.
• Architect scalable patterns for modeling, orchestration, and data transformation with cost-efficiency.
