Job summary

VRChat is seeking a data/ML engineer to join our Social Experience team. You will build data-driven personalization systems using AWS, Python/FastAPI, Node.js, and Snowflake to process large‑scale data and improve content discovery across VRChat.

You will design scalable data pipelines, collaborate with data scientists and product managers, and push from heuristics to data-backed personalization in a fully remote environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering focusing on data engineering for SaaS or online platforms.
• Proven production-grade data pipelines (ETL/ELT).
• Strong SQL and database optimization for analytics and real-time queries.
• Experience with Spark, Hadoop/Beam, or Kafka.
• Experience with AWS or Google Cloud at scale.
• Proficiency in Python and JavaScript/Node.js; Mongo and Redis.
• Experience with Elasticsearch, data warehousing, and ML systems.
• Agile, collaborative mindset; able to work in a remote cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimize scalable data pipelines and APIs for data-driven features.
• Design data models and schemas for analytics and real-time recommendations.
• Collaborate with data scientists and product managers to ensure data quality.
• Implement data processing jobs using Spark, Kafka for large datasets.
• Evolve from heuristics to data-backed personalization for content.
• Participate in backend system design including REST and websocket APIs, caching, queues, cloud orchestration.
• Be available to respond to outages.
