Job summary

Grubhub is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the data platform architecture across core pipelines and data products. This hands-on role drives design, standards, and quality while mentoring engineers and partnering with product, analytics, and platform teams to deliver trusted datasets for reporting and experimentation.

Based in New York or Chicago, you will influence multi-team decisions, ensure observability and data privacy, and advance data-driven decision making across the business.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering with distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in dimensional data modeling and analytics-scale data products.
• Advanced SQL and distributed processing frameworks; performance tuning.
• Multi-cloud data platforms: AWS and GCP; data pipelines and governance.
• Strong communication and leadership across teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture of data pipelines and domain data products end-to-end.
• Set technical direction and standards for data engineering across teams.
• Write performant, secure code and lead design/reviews beyond your team.
• Partner with product/analytics to publish trusted golden datasets.
• Mentor engineers, participate in hiring, grow technical depth.
• Translate trade-offs for leadership and document design rationale.
