Job summary

Root is hiring a Staff Data Engineer to lead the Data Platform team for financial data operations, including commissions payments and incentive programs. You will partner with Finance, Product, and Engineering to shape the roadmap and deliver scalable data pipelines and analytics infrastructure supporting high-stakes workflows.

As a technical leader, you will mentor engineers, contribute code, and drive platform tooling for faster onboarding of data sources and partner integrations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of data or software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience with Redshift, Spark, Apache Iceberg, Terraform.
• Proficiency with Airflow and dbt.
• Experience in Cloud Architecture on AWS.
• Proven leadership across multiple teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Set the quarterly strategy with Finance, Product, and Analytics.
• Identify and socialize technical initiatives that improve products and systems.
• Coach engineers on experiments and projects aligned with strategic objectives.
• Contribute code each cycle to advance team impact.
• Lead incident response to improve system resiliency.
• Coordinate with Staff Engineers to evangelize standards and best practices.
