Job summary

Whatnot is seeking a senior Data Engineer to own analytics data strategy and the tooling that powers reporting, BI, and experimentation. You will drive the roadmap for agentic and LLM-powered tooling while ensuring data contracts and scale.

You will mentor peers and set high standards in data modeling and quality across the org. You will collaborate with analytics, product, and engineering to turn messy business requirements into robust data systems and trusted dashboards.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as data or software engineer with data warehouses or distributed systems.
• Design data models supporting analytical and transactional workloads.
• Hands-on with modern tooling: Kafka, Debezium, dbt, Spark, Flink, Dagster, Airflow.
• Experience with Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift; CI/CD workflows.
• Proficient in Python or SQL; strong collaboration with analytics and product teams.

Responsibilities

• Own analytics data strategy end-to-end, define data models and tooling.
• Lead AI tooling roadmap and trustworthy infrastructure for scale.
• Define domain data contracts and ownership across the org.
• Ensure accuracy and speed of reporting with monitoring and testing.
• Translate raw data into actionable business insight with cross-functional partners.
• Set best practices for data modeling and quality; mentor across org as IC lead.
