Qualifications

  • Licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania; doctoral degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ counseling and administrative experience in higher education.
  • Experience with diverse populations.
  • Strong office management skills.
  • Experience in psychological assessments, brief therapies, crisis intervention, and supervision of internship programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct counseling services (individual and group) to students.
  • Supervise and mentor psychology trainees and practicum students.
  • Consult with faculty, staff, and campus partners on mental health, resilience, and wellness.
  • Participate in emergency/crisis response with an on-call rotation.
  • Develop and maintain practicum experiences for students and supervise internship programs.
  • Coordinate referrals and collaborate with health and counseling services across campus.

Job description

Staff Counselor, Counseling Service

Chatham University welcomes applications for the position of Staff Counselor. In this role, the successful candidate will support student well-being while contributing to the training and development of future mental health professionals. This position offers the opportunity to provide direct clinical services, supervise and mentor psychology trainees, and collaborate with campus partners to promote student mental health, resilience, and success.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and train practicum trainees to adhere to CounselingCenter policies and procedures.
  • Provide consultation, education, and outreach services tofaculty, staff, and students on developmental, mental health andwellness, and harm-reduction issues.
  • Participate in Counseling Services emergency and crisisresponse procedures, including an “on call” rotation, withfull-time staff counselors in a regular rotation and part-timestaff taking “on call” if other Counseling Services staff are outof the office.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance ofan annual 1st year practicum experience for Chatham PsyDstudents
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of an annualpracticum experience for advanced students from Chatham and otheruniversity/college counseling, psychology and social workprograms.
  • Provide counseling services (individual therapy andgroup/support counseling) to students.
  • Provide career counseling and referrals to students when it isappropriate in the course of therapy and/or when Career Developmentis unable to provide career exploration and careercounseling.
  • Provide assessment and psychological evaluations for students,including psychodiagnostics evaluation when clinicallyappropriate.
  • Provide students with appropriate referrals when needed.
  • Consult with mental health professionals.(physicians/psychiatrists/other providers) regarding students’needs for referrals and/or to providing appropriate care orcontinuity of care, including medication.
  • Liaise with members of the University community to encouragereferrals to the Counseling Service when students needs support
  • Identify and engage in practices that encourage adaptable,flexible, problem-solving approaches among staff andtrainees.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional Psychologist in the Commonwealth ofPennsylvania
  • Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology/Clinical Psychology
  • Minimum of three years’ experience of counseling and administrative work in higher education (may include postdoctoral work)
  • Experience with diverse populations
  • Office Management skills
  • Experience in:
    • Psychological Assessments and Evaluations
    • Psychological and Brief therapeutic treatments
    • Crisis Intervention/referrals
    • Management and supervision of graduate counseling internshipprogram
Salary Range

$43.00/hour 16-hour work week.
