Job summary

Encore Capital Group is seeking a Staff Counsel II to draft and file pleadings, manage collection litigation, and provide legal support for the collections unit. The role includes supervising non-legal staff and advising on compliance with applicable laws.

The candidate will negotiate with opposing counsel, direct discovery, and appear in hearings and trials as needed. A JD, Michigan Bar, and 3+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• JD degree from an accredited law school.
• Michigan State Bar completed.
• Master's or Advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and file legal pleadings for collection litigation.
• Manage and resolve litigation cost-effectively with clients and staff.
• Negotiate with opposing counsel and handle discovery.
• Represent clients in hearings, trials, and mediations.
• Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Supervise non-legal staff as needed.
