Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff-level engineer to design and operate a scalable internal cloud platform. You will partner across GM’s cloud foundations, control plane, and runtime to raise the bar for reliability and developer experience.

You will write production code in Go, shape platform APIs, CLI, and MCP tooling, and mentor senior engineers while collaborating with application teams to remove platform friction.

Qualifications

• Ten or more years building and operating production infrastructure with senior leadership.
• Deep hands-on Kubernetes experience in production at scale.
• Strong Go software engineering skills; production code experience.
• Experience designing internal developer platforms or PaaS.
• Infrastructure as code and declarative provisioning expertise.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core platform capabilities end to end, from API to production.
• Set technical direction for platform areas and write design docs.
• Eliminate developer toil and platform instability with automation.
• Create golden paths to make shipping the right way easiest.
• Leverage AI tooling and enable platform access via APIs and MCP.
• Collaborate with SRE on reliability, on-call and incident reviews.
• Mentor engineers, review designs, and model engineering standards.
• Work with application teams to remove platform friction.
