Job summary

Credit Acceptance Corporation in Southfield, Michigan seeks a senior software engineer to design, build and modernize cloud-native Java 21/Spring Boot services on AWS, with a focus on AI-assisted development, security and maintainability.

You will drive spec-driven changes, lead modernization across Consumer 360, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to ensure reliable, scalable production systems while advancing AI agent capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, IS, or equivalent; or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 8 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience leading technical direction across multiple applications.
• Expert, hands-on Java (17/21) and Spring Boot: REST and event-driven services.
• Experience with AI-assisted delivery: spec-driven development, test automation, CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
• Experience in data modeling and messaging.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
• Residence in hub locations: Southfield, MI; Bellevue, WA; or San Francisco Bay Area, CA.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and continuously improve cloud-native Java 21 / Spring Boot services on AWS, with AI coding agents for daily use.
• Practice spec-driven development with acceptance criteria and requirement IDs; back with automated tests.
• Lead modernization of Consumer 360: upgrade Java/Spring Boot, move to managed messaging, migrate on-prem workloads to AWS.
• Author, apply and advocate coding, documenting and testing standards.
• Conduct impact analysis across multiple applications and lead reviews.
