Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is hiring a Clinical Counselor to join their collaborative, diverse mental health team. This full-time position is embedded within the College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH), providing direct counseling to CECH students, outreach to the CECH community, and support for student well-being and academic success. The role also involves consulting with faculty and staff to offer resources and reduce barriers to success.

Essential Functions

  • Provide direct counseling services to undergraduate and graduate students in CECH, including intake evaluation, counseling (including individual and group counseling), and emergency management, within the stepped care model.
  • Provide consultation to CECH regarding counseling needs and services.
  • Develop and provide outreach to students, faculty, and staff to better understand and develop approaches to reduce mental health stress in the students.
  • Serve as liaison for counseling center to the CECH community.
  • Participate in training program(s) within the counseling center.
  • Develop and coordinate programs within the counseling center and CECH.
  • Collect data and create reports for program coordination.
  • Keep abreast of developments in professional field, related to student mental health, cultural competency and equitable access to services.
  • Represent CECH and CAPS on committees.
  • Participate as an active member of the CECH Student Success Team.
  • May provide direct or indirect supervision of graduate clinical students, interns, or other trainees assigned.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

Required Education

Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling, or Doctorate Degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology (PhD or PsyD).

Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Must be independently licensed or licensed eligible as a psychologist, social worker, or clinical counselor in the State of Ohio, with the ability to supervise in their discipline.
  • License must be achieved within six (6) months of date of employment.

Required Experience

Three (3) years of clinical experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience working in a college or university counseling center or other academic environment.
  • Direct service provision to college students.
  • Familiarity working with under-represented students and students from marginalized groups.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed interventions.
  • Experience working as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team.
