Job description

Summary

The Cincinnati VA Medical Center (VAMC) is searching for a full‑time Staff Cardiologist to fulfill the current staffing needs of our facility. The Cincinnati VAMC is an active teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Cincinnati and located within walking distance of campus. The Cardiologist will primarily serve in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The 2‑page resume requirement does not apply to this occupational series. Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree obtained from an VA‑approved school.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification.
• PRPs (Physician Resident Providers) are eligible if currently enrolled in an ACGME or AOA accredited residency and meet other conditions.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Must qualify for a faculty appointment at the University of Cincinnati.
• Maintain BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Preferred: Board eligible or board certified in Cardiology; additional heart failure training desirable.
• Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019. A physical examination will be conducted before placement.

Duties

• Provide clinical care in cardiology and oversee the education of residents, fellows, and medical students within the practice area.
• Act as chief of the section when appropriate.
• Guide and support physician assistants and nurse practitioners assigned to medical services.
• Supervise medical students, interns, residents, and fellows assigned to general medicine house services or subspecialty clinics per facility standards.
• Participate in medical center committees and facility programs such as Continuous Quality Improvement teams.
• Deliver patient‑centered care to both inpatients and outpatients for adults 18–65 and older adults 65+.
• Demonstrate sound clinical and administrative decision‑making, leadership in quality improvement, and stay informed of advances in cardiovascular care.
• Complete electronic medical record documentation and trainee supervision attestations within prescribed timeframes.
• Teach and train trainees in required medical procedures.
• Assist in developing education and training programs for medical students, fellows, and residents.
• Meet scholarly activity requirements, including peer‑reviewed publication and professional organization participation.
• Abide by VA research regulations for ongoing research projects.
• Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; may require additional time for acute patient care and weekend calls.
