Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team. You will design and operate authentication, OAuth, sessions, and tokens, building secure Go services used across web, mobile, API, and partner experiences.

You will mentor engineers, lead complex initiatives like signed tokens and biometric recovery, and collaborate with product, security, and infra teams to balance security with user experience.

Qualifications

• 8+ years backend software engineering experience with Go or similar.
• Design secure APIs with authentication, authorization and token handling.
• Experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers and data stores; strong observability.
• Proven track record delivering cross-functional projects from design to production.
• Responsible use of AI with human oversight to improve workflow and cost.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design and operation of authentication, sessions, and tokens.
• Build secure, low-latency Go services used across Coinbase products.
• Lead designs for complex auth initiatives like passkeys and device-aware auth.
• Collaborate with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance requirements.
• Create self-service tooling to scale access and authorization capabilities.
• Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and on-call participation.
