Job summary

Uber is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Backend) for the Earner Experience team in Sunnyvale, CA. You will drive architectural design, implementation, and delivery of backend systems at scale, mentoring others and elevating engineering excellence.

You will mentor engineers, own high-impact projects end-to-end, and collaborate with product, design, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable, secure services powering Earners’ journeys.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development with backend focus.
• Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong AI experience with LLMs and AI-assisted development.
• Expertise in one or more backend languages (Go, Java, Python, Ruby, Node.js).
• Deep understanding of API design, SQL/NoSQL, and cloud tech.
• Proven technical leadership delivering high-impact features.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Own end-to-end execution of high-impact projects from ideation to production.
• Collaborate with product, design, and frontend engineers for seamless UX.
