Job summary

Uber is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Backend) to join the Earner Experience team. You will drive technical design and delivery of backend systems at scale, mentoring engineers and collaborating across product, design, and infrastructure to build secure and performant services powering Earners’ experiences.

You’ll lead high-impact projects end-to-end, influence backend architecture, and focus on reliability and security while advancing engineering excellence across the team.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on backend systems.
• Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
• Hands-on AI experience with LLMs and AI-assisted development practices.
• Expertise in backend languages (Go, Java, Python, Ruby, Node.js).
• Deep understanding of API design and databases (SQL and NoSQL).
• Track record of technical leadership and delivering high-impact features.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable backend systems and APIs for customer-facing features.
• Own end-to-end execution of high-impact projects from ideation to production.
• Collaborate with product, design, and frontend engineers for seamless UX.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in coding, design, and architecture.
