Job summary

Laurel is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to elevate backend engineering practices across our stack. You will shape architecture, drive reliable services, and mentor teammates in a cross-functional environment.

We operate in a hybrid model with locations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, and we welcome outstanding remote candidates in the US/Canada. You’ll influence product direction, security, and performance while delivering incremental value to customers.

Qualifications

6+ years of professional backend software development experience.
Solid understanding of modern web technologies and large-scale data systems.
Full stack knowledge is a plus and beneficial in cross-functional work.
Ability to design, build, and optimize backend services with quality and reliability.

Responsibilities

Architect, develop, and maintain backend components across applications.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define specs and success metrics.
Identify bottlenecks, improve performance, scalability, and security.
Mentor junior developers and contribute to a learning culture.
Stay updated on trends; propose improvements and new features.
Implement automated tests and CI/CD pipelines; participate in on-call rotation.
Engage with product success teams to flesh out business requirements.
