Job summary

FOX is seeking a Staff Backend Software Engineer to lead scalable backend services for audio/video hosting, monetization, and analytics. You will work primarily in Python, with Celery, PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, and cloud primitives on AWS and GCP, collaborating with product and infra teams.

You will own reliability, design RESTful APIs, and drive infrastructure as code, testing, and observability. Hybrid or on-site at scale, with a strong emphasis on security and performance.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience in platform systems or equivalent depth.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of RESTful APIs and async workers for publishing, media processing, SSAI and VAST-related workflows.
• Own reliability and performance of distributed systems and workloads including queue design and logging.
• Drive data and integration decisions across PostgreSQL, Redis-backed coordination, and object storage.
• Lead Terraform and AWS changes affecting the application: EB tiers, IAM, networking, observability hooks, and phased rollouts.
• Raise the bar on observability: structured logging, Prometheus-style metrics, Grafana and CloudWatch usage.
• Define and evolve testing strategy for critical paths and CI-ready checks.
• Represent backend concerns in planning, design reviews, and incident discussions; communicate trade-offs clearly.
• Anticipate scaling and complexity with phased migrations and safer defaults.
