Job summary

Uber is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer (Backend) to join the Earner Experience team. You will design and deliver large-scale backend systems and APIs powering Earners’ experiences, collaborating with product, design, and infrastructure teams.

You will lead high-impact projects from ideation to production, mentor peers, and help evolve our backend architecture, focusing on reliability, security, and performance at scale.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
• Hands-on AI expertise with LLMs and AI-assisted development practices.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages (Go, Java, Python, Ruby, Node.js).
• Deep understanding of API design, databases (SQL/NoSQL), and cloud infrastructure.
• Track record of technical leadership and delivering high-impact features.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Own end-to-end execution of high-impact projects from ideation to production.
• Collaborate with product, design, and frontend engineers for seamless UX.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in coding and architecture.
