Job summary

Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff-level Backend Engineer to build the first production services for a context-layer management system powering AI-driven data access. You’ll design core backend architecture for ingestion, storage, and retrieval, shaping a scalable SaaS platform with multi-tenant isolation and robust observability.

You’ll work on APIs for AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs, and internal apps, collaborating across product and infrastructure to evolve from prototype to production-grade SaaS

Qualifications

• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and building applications powered by GenAI.
• Proven track record of delivering software in production.
• Experience using observability tools to understand and troubleshoot system behavior.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship core backend services: ingestion, indexing, retrieval APIs, and agent-facing integrations.
• Create a scalable SaaS foundation with multi-tenant architecture, quotas, and logs.
• Power agent-facing retrieval workflows and integration with internal tools.
• Collaborate to balance rapid experimentation with long-term reliability.
• Instrument services with metrics, logs, and dashboards; monitor and improve reliability.
• Contribute to architecture, storage, API contracts, and deployment patterns.
• Communicate effectively across teams and own impact of AI solutions.
