Job summary

Grafana Labs seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to help build the first production services for a new context layer management system. You will design and ship the core backend architecture powering ingestion, context storage, retrieval APIs, and agent integrations.

This early-stage, high-autonomy role offers opportunities to shape architecture, set deployment patterns, and collaborate across product and infrastructure while maintaining a strong focus on observability and reliability.

Qualifications

• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and GenAI-powered applications.
• Proven track record delivering software that ships to production and is used by users.
• Exposure to cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience using observability tools to monitor and troubleshoot systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core backend services for context ingestion, indexing, and retrieval.
• Develop a scalable multi-tenant SaaS foundation with isolation, quotas, and logs.
• Create agent-facing retrieval workflows and APIs for AI agents and tools.
• Collaborate across product and infrastructure to balance speed and reliability.
• Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and dashboards.
• Contribute to technical direction: architecture, storage, APIs, and deployment patterns.
• Communicate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
• Own the AI solutions and ensure scalability and maintainability.
