Job summary

Parafin, Inc. is seeking an experienced Staff Backend Engineer for the Lending Products team in San Francisco. You will lead the technical evolution of the platforms and infrastructure powering Parafin's lending products, partnering with engineers across teams to ship new features quickly and reliably.

You will guide architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and raise the bar for engineering quality, fostering ownership and craft while aligning on priorities and tradeoffs.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in backend engineering, ideally in a platform or product-focused environment.
• You care deeply about building high-quality software and take pride in your craft.
• Experience leading ambiguous, cross-functional projects with tradeoffs on reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
• Ability to identify commonalities across problems and design appropriate abstractions.
• Strong cross-functional communication across Engineering, Product, and Data Science teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and evolution of Parafin's lending platforms, frameworks, and shared infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineers on teams owning lending verticals to build platform capabilities.
• Set technical direction through design docs, architecture reviews, and discussions.
• Identify and own infrastructure improvements to accelerate product development and reliability.
• Mentor engineers, improve team processes, and raise engineering quality.
• Foster a culture of craft and ownership and raise the bar for code quality.
