Job summary

Horizon3.ai is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Backend to anchor the technical direction of the Assessment Experience team, building backend services, APIs, and data models behind NodeZero workflows. This hands-on role requires production code, architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and collaboration with Product, Design, and leadership to translate goals into scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building backend services in Python, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Strong SQL and relational database knowledge.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Docker.
• Designing and operating APIs and event-driven systems.
• Observability, testing, reliability practices.
• Leading cross-team technical work and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for Assessment Experience backend systems.
• Design and build scalable backend services, APIs, and workflows.
• Lead architectural decisions balancing velocity, reliability, data correctness.
• Translate goals into technical strategy with Product/Design collaboration.
• Mentor engineers and contribute production code.
• Raise the technical bar through reviews and standards.
• Communicate complex concepts to stakeholders.
• Support hiring and attract strong engineering talent.
• Use feedback to improve how customers interact with NodeZero.
