Gusto is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for its Payroll Platform to design and evolve backend infrastructure powering payroll experiences. You will own core APIs and collaborate with multiple teams to deliver compliant, scalable solutions across the company.

Responsibilities include shaping architecture, driving performance improvements, and ensuring reliability as payroll processing scales to thousands of businesses.

Formación

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on backend development.
• Experience building and scaling internal platforms, shared services, or foundational APIs.
• Strong system design skills with performance, scalability, and reliability focus.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (LLMs, Claude Code, Cursor) in daily work.

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs used by multiple product teams.
• Own a primary domain within the Payroll Platform, ensuring health, correctness, and scalability.
• Collaborate with other teams to drive platform adoption and cross-use cases.
• Create architecture/design documents and guide long-term platform evolution.
• Improve performance, observability, and reliability of payroll processing.
