Kalepa, a leading remote-first company with a nationwide team and HQ in New York City, seeks a Staff Backend Engineer to own end-to-end backend initiatives at scale. You will design systems, guide architectural decisions, and drive LLM-based pipelines that process billions of data points daily.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building and operating backend systems at scale.
• Tech lead on at least one major initiative or project.
• Experience with LLMs in production and deploying them at scale.
• Strong Python skills; open to other OO languages.
• Experience with AWS and serverless technologies and cloud environments.
• Relational databases and performance tuning, ideally PostgreSQL.
• Ability to own projects end-to-end and communicate with engineers, product and leadership.
• Experience with document pipelines and processing large data.

Responsabilités

• Lead backend initiatives: services, data models, asynchronous pipelines, and evals in Python on AWS.
• Set technical direction for LLM systems, reliability, cost, latency, evaluation, and explainability.
• Lead architecture discussions and decisions across the product; be a systems designer.
• Deliver major product innovations in releases and scope new features.
• Proactively manage technical debt and collaborate with business/product on decisions.
• Represent Kalepa internally and externally, including recruiting and training.
• Use AI tooling to multiply impact and drive team effectiveness.
• Spot cross-cutting improvements across services and modules.
