Job summary

Horizon3 is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer for the Licensing, Usage & Entitlements team to lead services that manage NodeZero packaging, entitlements, and usage enforcement. You will guide data correctness, API design, and scalable systems across direct and MSP accounts, while mentoring engineers and shaping architecture.

The role emphasizes ownership from architecture to production, with remote work options and collaboration with Product and Engineering to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering with backend services and APIs.
• Experience leading architecture or technical direction for complex systems.
• Strong SQL, data modeling, distributed systems, and service reliability.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for services representing purchases, packaging, entitlements, and usage.
• Design robust licensing and access workflows across accounts.
• Lead cross-service initiatives while remaining hands-on.
• Establish data correctness, API evolution, and production observability patterns.
• Collaborate with Product and Eng to meet requirements and tradeoffs.
• Mentor engineers and influence design decisions via reviews and writing.
