Rythm Health, Inc. is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer in a remote, US‑based role. This high‑leverage position focuses on architecture ownership without management duties, with base salaries benchmarked in the $190K–$270K range plus equity.
The role emphasizes scalable backend systems, HIPAA-adjacent data handling, and cross‑functional collaboration across lab, logistics, billing, and analytics. You’ll lead critical projects from discovery to launch, shaping our platform with an emphasis on
Career Level & Market Position: The "Staff" designation signals an individual contributor leadership role — above Senior, below Principal/Distinguished. This is a high-leverage position for engineers looking to shape architecture without moving fully into management. Market benchmarks for Staff Backend Engineers at US health-tech startups range from $190K–$270K base, plus equity — Rythm's "highly competitive" language and meaningful equity suggest alignment with this range.
Skills You'll Build:
Company Stage & Culture Signals: Rythm describes itself as a small, fast-moving, vertically integrated team — classic growth-stage startup. "High ownership, low ego" and "no title hierarchy for ideas" are strong green flags for engineers who want impact over politics. The small team size means your architectural decisions will carry real weight.
Green Flags: Equity participation early in company growth, full healthcare coverage, strong mission alignment in preventative health.
Watch For: No explicit engineering team size is mentioned; "small team" context-switching may stretch bandwidth. The lack of salary transparency is a mild yellow flag — come prepared to negotiate with market data in hand.
Rythm is the fastest-growing lab in America. We redefined at-home testing with the world's easiest blood test and created a culture around monthly lab testing from home. We've processed millions of tests across all 50 states, and we do everything in-house, from sample testing and logistics to code, marketing, and design. That vertical integration gives us the speed, control, and creativity to shape the future of health and wellness.
Behind every Rythm member experience is a network of systems connecting our product, laboratory, logistics, and operations. As a Staff Backend Engineer, you'll help build and strengthen that foundation.
You’ll take ownership of complex projects from the first technical decisions through launch and whatever comes next. Since we're a small team, you'll work directly with people across the business and have a clear view of how the things you build affect our members and the teams supporting them.
We're looking for someone who can look at a messy problem, figure out what actually matters, and build a solution that works today without creating headaches down the road. You'll have a real voice in our backend architecture and engineering practices, but this is still very much a hands‑on role. You'll spend most of your time designing systems, writing code, and improving the platform alongside the rest of the team.
