Job summary

Scribe is seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Core Product Engineering team in San Francisco. You will shape the systems behind how millions of users create, share, and consume documentation, mentoring engineers and guiding architectural choices for scalable editing and rendering experiences.

You will lead backend work in a Django-based monolith, driving performance, reliability, and robust testing while collaborating with product and design teams across the organization.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building backend applications at high scale and availability.
• Deep, extensive experience with Python.
• Ability to optimize endpoint performance and database queries.
• Advocate strongly for automated testing.
• Implemented engineering best practices, not just read about them.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of new features in the Django monolith focusing on core document viewing, editing, embeds, and exports.
• Improve performance and scalability by optimizing queries, endpoints, and caching layers.
• Partner with product and design to deliver intuitive, reliable editing and rendering experiences at scale.
• Make architectural calls on monolith extension vs service extraction for high-scale systems.
• Raise the bar on engineering excellence through code reviews, mentorship, and strong testing/observability practices.
