Job summary

Haus in Seattle seeks a senior backend/data engineer to shape the data platform that ingests data from dozens of ad networks and powers incrementality analyses.

You will set technical direction on a 6–10 person team, own the lakehouse, and mentor engineers while partnering with engineering leadership, product, and data science.

The role emphasizes distributed systems, dbt, BigQuery, and Python, with a strong focus on reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• 10 years of software engineering experience, with deep backend and data expertise.
• Solid, hands‑on experience with a cloud data warehouse or lakehouse.
• Deep SQL/dbt experience; can design evolving schemas for large analytics workloads.
• Expert‑level Python experience for building services, not just scripts.
• Staff‑level technical leadership: setting direction across multiple workstreams and documenting designs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with cross‑functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build backend services powering Haus’s data platform: ingestion and normalization.
• Solve distributed-systems problems: exactly-once semantics, backfills, schema evolution.
• Own lakehouse/warehouse as a product: schema design, dbt, data quality and cost/performance.
• Set engineering bar: testing strategy, API design, code reviews, observability, CI/CD.
• Drive architectural decisions across GCP/BigQuery/dbt/Python and align with data science teams.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence the broader data strategy.
