Job summary

The company is seeking a Backend Staff Software Engineer to drive the technical direction of our Communications Platform team in New York City. This hands-on, senior role leads architecture, reliability, and scalable backend services for email, in-product notifications and push channels.

Based in our NYC office with a hybrid schedule (3 days on-site), you’ll mentor engineers, shape roadmaps, and raise engineering quality across multiple services used by internal and external teams worldwide.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience building and operating large-scale, customer-facing systems.

Responsibilities

• Drive architecture, design, and implementation of the Communications Platform’s backend services.
• Define and own technical strategy for platform modernization and reliability.
• Provide hands-on leadership and mentorship to a team of backend and frontend engineers.
• Write high-quality Java code and lead design reviews and architectural decisions.
• Identify and address systemic risks in performance, reliability, security, and operability.
• Collaborate on cross-team and company-wide architecture initiatives.
• Balance short-term delivery with long-term platform health and communicate tradeoffs to leadership.
