United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a staff-level backend engineer to advance our cloud-native platform and services. You will partner with cross-functional teams to design, build, and scale high-performance backend systems in a fast-paced environment.

The role emphasizes deep expertise in multithreading, memory management, Java backend services, and modern cloud technologies, with opportunities for significant equity as the company grows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 8+ years of expansive programming in Java backend services.
• 3+ years with MySQL or relational DBs; query tuning a plus.
• 3+ years developing and operating web services on Kubernetes (AWS EKS a plus).
• Experience with REST and knowledge of gRPC a plus.
• Proficiency with Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Tomcat, AWS, Redis, Docker.
• Knowledge of network security, authentication and authorization.
• Familiarity with Agile software development processes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering teams to design, develop and deliver cloud-based infrastructure projects on a modern tech stack (Redis, Docker, Terraform on AWS).
• Drive evaluation, development and rollout of new shared features and frameworks.
• Operate, support, and upgrade shared services and frameworks; scale with usage growth.
• Conduct design and code reviews; ensure high standards with unit and functional tests.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and fix services and frameworks owned by the team.
• Evaluate system performance and resolve bottlenecks.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers.
• Collaborate with architects, QA, product owners, security and operations.
