Job summary

Okta is seeking a staff backend engineer for its Core Engineering team in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will design and scale cloud-based infrastructure with a modern stack including Redis, Docker, and Terraform on AWS, and mentor peers while delivering high-impact features.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required in CS or equivalent.
• 5+ years of exp in backend services with Java.
• Strong understanding of multithreading, GC, and memory management.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deliver cloud-based infrastructure projects on a modern tech stack (Redis, Docker, Terraform on AWS).
• Drive evaluation, development and rollout of new common features and frameworks.
• Operate, support and upgrade shared services and frameworks as usage grows with Okta’s business.
• Conduct design and code reviews and ensure high programming standards by writing tests.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and fix services and frameworks owned by the team.
• Evaluate system performance and resolve bottlenecks.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers.
• Collaborate with architects, QA, product owners, security and operations engineers.
