Job summary

Grafana Labs, a remote-first company with a global footprint, is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer for the Adaptive Telemetry group within Databases. You will drive architecture, reliability and cost for telemetry databases (Mimir, Loki, Tempo, Pyroscope), and lead cross-functional delivery in a cloud-native stack using Go, Python, C/C++, or Rust.

You’ll define SLOs/SLIs, improve observability, and mentor engineers while collaborating with Product and Design across time zones.

Qualifications

• Proven delivery of large distributed systems.
• Strong systems-design instincts with latency, consistency, availability tradeoffs.
• Hands-on cloud and platform experience (microservices, containers/Kubernetes, IaC).
• Reliability and performance ownership including capacity planning.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical strategy and roadmap for adaptive telemetry services.
• Lead end-to-end delivery of large projects across teams.
• Own architecture, reliability, performance, and cost of critical systems.
• Define SLOs/SLIs and lead incident response.
• Improve observability and automation to reduce toil and MTTR.
• Mentor engineers and align cross-functional stakeholders.
