Job summary

Coursera, Toronto-based, is seeking a Staff Software Developer on the Monetization team to lead pivotal backend work, including service architecture, API development, and data modeling, using Java, MySQL, DynamoDB, gRPC, GraphQL, Kafka, and microservices.

This role blends hands-on coding with technical leadership, collaborating with product and engineering to drive decisions and business outcomes.

Qualifications

7+ years of software engineering experience.
Experience designing scalable microservices and storage layers using Java, Play, Scala, MySQL, Cassandra, Solr, or Kafka.
Experience working in fast-moving team environments with frequent deployments.
Background in using data and metrics to inform technical and product decisions.
Demonstrated history of building and launching products with understanding of API design, system architecture, and data architecture.

Responsibilities

Design and implement scalable backend systems for Coursera's services.
Measure results, analyze data, and drive product changes through A/B testing.
Set up monitoring and testing of APIs and services to ensure health and performance.
Collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to shape requirements and trade-offs.
Drive data-informed decisions by analyzing metrics and experiment results to validate product hypotheses.
Contribute to roadmap decisions with system insights and data-driven arguments.
