Job summary

Maryland Legal Aid in Baltimore is seeking a staff attorney for the Victim's Assistance Project (VAP). The attorney will represent survivors in protective orders and family law, with potential housing and consumer matters, while supporting court advocacy and policy work.

Based in MLA's Baltimore City office, the role involves trial work, appellate work, and community outreach. Prior experience serving abuse survivors is preferred, with a commitment to social justice and collaboration with

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school; Maryland admission or eligibility.
• 1–3 years of legal experience; clerkships or fellowships acceptable.
• Proficient with Office 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Commitment to social justice and serving marginalized communities.

Responsibilities

• Zealously represent clients in protective orders, family law, and related matters.
• Conduct client interviews and provide clear legal advice.
• Develop case strategy for trial representation and appellate work as needed.
• Draft complaints, answers, and memoranda of law.
• Maintain relationships with community groups and participate in outreach.
• Engage in professional development through MLA trainings.
• Maintain case records in the LegalServer system.
• Perform additional duties within the project scope.
